How to Travel with Jewelry - Like a Designer...

It can be intimidating to travel with your jewelry, but with a little bit of preparation and some tips I hope the below will help!

Here are my tips:

  1. Choose Wisely:
When packing jewelry for a trip, be selective. Opt for versatile pieces that can complement various outfits. I put together a tray of what I want to pack and take a photo before I put each piece into its own little baggie. Not glamorous, but wildly efficient. Don’t forget a statement earring like Our Whimsy to dress up any outfit in the evening.
  2. Invest in a hard shell Travel Case: To keep your jewelry all together and organized I use the little plastic bags (see above), but then I place all of this into a designated jewelry case. Louis Vuitton’s smallest “Packing Cube” and Smythson's cube are good options. I’m not big on compartmentalized cases largely because I have not found one that is “perfect” or makes sense to me.
  3. Keep It in Your Carry-On:
Your valuable jewelry should stay in your carry-on luggage or ideally your purse.
  4. Keep Your Necklaces From Tangling:
Chains get tangled and broken if not stored correctly. The way I do it… Use the plastic bag. Move one end of the chain to the far left, the other end of the chain to the far right and seal the zip lock in between. Like below!
  5. Take Pictures of Your Jewelry:
Before your trip, take clear photos of each piece of jewelry you're bringing. This documentation can be invaluable if you need to make an insurance claim in the event of loss or theft.
  6. Use the Hotel Safes!
Safe travels friends!
